Virtual Education Testimonials

Virtual School Testimony

I have had two years experience using a virtual school for my teenage son and teenage daughter. Both my teens are enrolled in Crescent Prep’s high school program. I have home schooled from day one, and wish I would have discovered virtual school a long time ago. I cannot say one negative thing about our experience.

I have been pleasantly surprised with virtual schooling with how well my kids have done and with the communication among their instructors. I love that they are able to work at their own pace. They don’t have to wait on other students or teachers to move to their next lessons. If they are sick, it is no problem for them to miss a few days of school. If we go on a trip, we bring our laptops so school doesn’t stop. The flexibility is amazing.

What has really impressed me is how much my children have changed for the positive since starting virtual schooling. They are more responsible and much more diligent in getting their work done. They have learned to manage their time because they are responsible for getting their school work done without a teacher telling them when to do it. In my opinion, this is a valuable life lesson that my children would not have had the opportunity to learn without being enrolled in virtual school.

I have a four year old son that will be starting kindergarten in the fall. He will be enrolled in a virtual school along with his brother and sister. Virtual school has been such a positive experience for my family.

“Although I am no longer homeschooling my son (when the BCVIP curriculum was dissolved, I had to send my son back to the brick and mortar school), the homeschool experience was pivotal in getting him back on track in the brick and mortar academic setting. My son is very intelligent, but has ADD (and a 504 educational plan). None of the teachers in the brick school really wanted to comply with the requirements those things carry with them, and my son was failing. He had been tested, by the school system, and his IQ is above average as are his knowledge retention abilities. So why was he failing? He was falling through the cracks. He’s shy, so couldn’t bring himself to advocate for himself. If he didn’t understand something or needed more time he was brushed aside.

In the year I homeschooled him he caught up, and passed his peers in every subject. What was the difference? Time and attention. The Connections Academy program provided materials for home instruction, but also provided online, real live teachers (certified and educated!) who worked with the “class”. We had field trips every month, the kids in the class got to be friends online and in real life. The material was presented in a very “teachable” way, so I was easily able to get him to understand even Algebra. Because I (his teacher) took the time to actually listen to and address where he was having trouble, he was able to comprehend and apply knowledge and information that was eluding him in the brick school setting. The result: Honor Roll. And not only in the homeschool setting. My son re-entered 10th grade with his peers, and he is still on the Honor Roll. Not bad for a kid who was failing 8th grade in the brick school.

This is not to say he is now problem free. He still has ADD and a 504 that his teachers won’t follow, but now he is positioned academically ahead of the eight ball instead of behind it and that is a direct result of the year at home with teachers that cared and took the time to reach him where he was and bring him up to speed.

My year of homeschooling saved my son.”
