News Release
Baltimore, MD – March 17, 2009 –Emerging Minds of Maryland announces their support of two new bills paving the way for virtual education as a public school option.
These two bills lay the foundation for bringing virtual instruction as an option for all families across the state of Maryland. Emerging Minds of Maryland supports Senate Bill 1032, which lays the foundation for supplemental virtual education and endorses the House Bill 1543, which lays the foundation for a full time remote location virtual education. “We are thrilled with the possibilities that these two new bills offer; they reflect the forward thinking this advocacy group has been campaigning for since funding for the Baltimore County Virtual Instruction Program was denied,” said Amy Sparks, Vice President of Emerging Minds of Maryland.
Emerging Minds of Maryland, a growing advocacy group led by Kia Drake-Cummings will be attending and testifying in Annapolis on these two bills. There has already been a hearing date set for Senate Bill 1032 which will take place on March 25, 2009 at 1:00 PM located at the Miller Senate Building - 11 Bladen St. 2nd Floor on the West Side. Annapolis, MD. 21401. “We encourage and welcome anyone who is interested in supporting this bill to come and attend or testify to ensure that parent’s expectations, concerns and appreciation for this cutting edge education option will be recognized. This should become the standard for our nation’s youth who will be competing in a highly technological and global world,” said Bonnie Wesselhoff, Correspondence Secretary of Emerging Minds of Maryland.
“There are numerous ways to support this cause.” said Judy Wilson-Burkes, a Baltimore, MD supporter of Emerging Minds of Maryland. “If you cannot make it to the hearing on March 25th and you want to support this bill, simply contact your local senator and tell them that you want them to vote for this bill.”
